The National Library of Technology (NTK) deserves one’s attention, as it is literally overfilled with all kinds of technical literature. What’s more, it is a perfect demonstration of what a building for bookworms should ideally look like. The idea of a concrete building comes from the architects of Projektil who have great experience with the construction of libraries and other university buildings - they worked on similar buildings in Ostrava, Kutná Hora, and Hradec Králové.

NTK is a rather multifunctional building as it also houses lecture theatres of the Czech Technical University, a specialized bookshop, café, and a study room. It is situated in the vast university campus in Dejvice and serves as a new cultural centre in the area. Despite the fact that it was built only a couple of years ago, there is a real buzz about the place and it is used as the main meeting point for many groups of people, not only locally-based students.

You would have a hard time finding a better place to spend a rainy day in Prague. The café will probably not enthuse you with its first class gastronomy but this imperfection is compensated for by exhibitions regularly held in the entry hall, or by browsing tens of funny sketches by Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi, drawn on the concrete construction of the main library hall.

Spud. is an unconventional Prague city guide, that highlights its interesting spots and local businesses that are really worth visiting. With a Polaroid camera, we’re mapping four different areas: food and drinks, shops, workplaces of creative people and architecture. Spud. is focused on fresh places with unique atmosphere, cafés with the best coffee, shops with the finest goods, workshops and studios of the most skilled designers and architectural attractions with the greatest charm. Spud. is also mainly about people, who stand behind these projects. Without their invention and courage to fulfill their dreams Prague would be a much poorer place. That’s why we’re so grateful to all of them!
